Beate Frommelt receives the Josef Gabriel von Rheinberger Prize
The versatile artist Beate Frommelt has been awarded the prestigious Josef Gabriel Rheinberger Prize. The Josef Gabriel Rheinberger Prize Committee of the Municipality of Vaduz is thus honoring a personality who has helped shape Liechtenstein's cultural life in a special way through her many years of dedicated and independent work.
Beate Frommelt, born in 1973, grew up in Liechtenstein and now lives and works in Zurich and Liechtenstein. She completed her artistic training at the Lucerne School of Art and Design. She studied painting at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Professor Jean Zuber. Beate Frommelt graduated with a Master's degree in Fine Arts from the renowned Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. This was later followed by a Master's in Art Education at the Zurich University of the Arts. She sees art education as part of her artistic practice.
Frommelt is an artist who explores boundaries. Her work encompasses drawing, printmaking, installation and object art - often infused with a subtle play with language, space and material. With a clear attitude, a love of experimentation and an impressive ability for poetic reduction, she succeeds in visually realizing complex themes such as identity, memory and transformation in an impressive way.
Her work is not only exhibited internationally, but is also firmly anchored in the local area. Beate Frommelt has also made an important contribution to the visibility and further development of contemporary art in Vaduz through numerous projects and exhibitions. Her works stimulate debate and enrich public discourse in the long term.
By awarding the Josef Gabriel Rheinberger Prize, the municipality of Vaduz is not only recognizing the outstanding artistic quality of Frommelt's work, but also her contribution to the cultural identity of the country. The prize, named after the famous Vaduz composer, underlines the importance of art in the social fabric - an attitude that Beate Frommelt impressively embodies with her work.
The award ceremony will take place on November 25, 2025, on the 124th anniversary of Josef Gabriel Rheinberger's death, in the house where he was born, which is now the Liechtenstein School of Music in Vaduz.
