Downtown Development
The downtown development is based on a long-term process and addresses key issues such as improving the quality of life, safe pedestrian and bicycle paths, and good public transportation connections. The main development priorities are the new market square with a mobility hub and underground parking garage, the town hall square with a canopy, as well as the State Library and Äulestrasse.
Market Square with Mobility Hub
With the Market Square project, the municipality is now taking a major step into the implementation phase of downtown development. The existing parking garage has reached the end of its service life. The construction of a new underground parking garage and the redesign of the square will create an open, green, and flexible space—for markets, festivals, and gatherings.
At the same time, the new mobility hub will be created here: a central arrival point where buses, bicycles, pedestrians, and cars are optimally connected. This will make Vaduz more accessible to everyone and significantly enhance the transition between the old town, schools, and the Vaduzer-Saal. The new market square serves as an important starting point for the further development of the city center.
Town Hall Square
Following the market square, Rathausplatz is the second focal point of development. Here, a sheltered, weather-independent gathering place with a high quality of stay is to be created. The planned canopy will enable events and cultural activities throughout the year—low-impact, barrier-free, and featuring high-quality design. Rathausplatz will thus become a place for clubs, festivals, and everyday encounters.
Two squares with distinct roles
With the Market Square and Town Hall Square, two places with distinct yet complementary qualities are emerging: The Market Square stands for openness, movement, and mobility—the Town Hall Square for social interaction, culture, and leisure. Together, they form the framework for a vibrant, diverse, and sustainable center that meets the needs of all generations.
