Mühleholz sports and leisure zone
The Mühleholz area on Schaanerstrasse is designated as a sports and leisure zone. A planning study was carried out to examine the development of the landscape and traffic access to the area. A corresponding construction project has now been drawn up on the basis of these results.
The Mühleholz outdoor pool and the miniature golf course are owned equally by the municipality of Vaduz and the municipality of Schaan. Other areas in this zone for public buildings and facilities are also owned by both municipalities. As part of a planning study, which was approved by both municipal councils, potential for improvement was identified for this area and translated into a concrete construction project.
This includes, among other things
- Shifting the carriageway to the west, thereby gaining space and significantly improving the quality of the area in front of the outdoor pool
- Raising the road level and therefore fewer steps in front of the outdoor pool entrance
- Central access to the parking spaces between the "Obere Rüttigass" road and the outdoor pool entrance as well as parking spaces for the climbing hall
- Relocation of the local bus stop to the area of the swimming pool entrance
- One-sided, wide pedestrian route along the swimming pool entrance
- Generous parking spaces for bicycles and additional spaces for bicycles with trailers and for motorcycles
- Shady planting for ecological enhancement
- Local infiltration of rainwater and thus selective implementation of the "sponge city" principle, which also relieves the pressure on the wastewater pipes. The aim of this principle is to absorb and store rainwater on site. During hot and dry periods, the rainwater stored underground is returned to the plants and the water cycle.
- Fountain site in the area of the skate park
- Adaptation of the waste disposal concept for the swimming and bathing facility, including expansion of the corresponding parking spaces
These measures create an overall project that takes into account the safety, design and ecological requirements. The perimeter from the tennis hall to the "Obere Rüttigasse" road will be given a new, modern and attractive face for the Mühleholz sports and leisure zone.
The costs for these measures amount to CHF 3,970,000.00 and will be divided as follows:
- Municipality of Vaduz: CHF 2.12 million
- Municipality of Schaan: CHF 1.85 million
Once this construction project has been approved by the Vaduz and Schaan municipal councils, construction work is scheduled to start at the end of September 2025. The majority of the work should be completed before the 2026 swimming pool season.
During the construction work, Schaanerstrasse will be closed to motorized traffic from the tennis hall to "Obere Rüttigass". Pedestrians and cyclists will be guided through the construction section via a temporary path. The local bus will be rerouted on a small scale.
