Municipal police - Cars now in yellow and blue on the road
The color orange is a thing of the past. Since the beginning of 2025, the seven service vehicles of Liechtenstein's municipal police forces have been painted blue - the main police color throughout Europe. In combination with the signal color yellow, the result is a harmonious image with increased visibility.
In spring 2024, the committee of Liechtenstein municipal police officers took the initiative to standardize all service vehicles. The fact that orange was previously chosen for the vehicles has to do with the proximity to Switzerland - one of the few countries in which the police use this color. In the meantime, however, some cantons have also switched to blue.
Clear differentiation from the national police force
Another important aspect in the choice of color was the clear differentiation from the blue-orange vehicles of the national police. The municipal police have combined the much brighter blue with the signal color yellow so that residents can see at first glance who they will encounter on the street. For better visibility, the yellow elements and the "municipal police" lettering on the doors are fluorescent. Additional white reflectors increase the luminosity in the dark.
Only a few months passed from the idea to the implementation of the standardization of the vehicles. There was a great deal of support - both in the committee of municipal police officers and in the conference of chiefs. The fact that all seven cars in use at the end of March 2025 were finally repainted within two weeks is a fine example of the close cooperation between the municipalities and their security authorities.
