The new wooden cup at the Summerträff
The municipality of Vaduz is testing an innovative cup solution as part of a pilot project: the Arboloom Cup is produced in a water- and energy-saving manner, is CO₂-neutral and 100% compostable - fully in line with the "Vaduz 2030" sustainability strategy, which aims to promote sustainable materials.
The trial was initiated by a working group set up to look into sustainable alternatives for cup solutions at events. In the process, it came across the manufacturer "Arboloom Cup AG".
The wood veneer cups are an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional paper and plastic packaging and offer a compostable option with a minimal ecological footprint. They are made from FSC-certified birch veneer from European forests. The cups have a bio-based coating created by fermenting renewable raw materials - completely glue-free and joined together using modern ultrasonic welding technology. They are produced in Brügg near Biel in Switzerland, which also guarantees short transportation routes.
But the wooden cup is not only environmentally friendly: it can easily be disposed of with normal waste and even serves as a valuable raw material for waste incineration. It is also suitable for both hot and cold drinks. Thanks to the natural insulating effect of wood, drinks stay cool for longer and there is no annoying condensation as with paper cups.
Impressive ecological footprint
The ecological footprint of the Arboloom cup is three times smaller than that of a plastic cup and 20 percent smaller than that of reusable cups. Compared to conventional paper cups, Arboloom wooden cups skip the energy-intensive paper production process, reduce energy, water and chemical consumption and use 50 percent less wood. In addition, their production generates three times fewer CO₂ emissions than the production of plastic cups.
The municipality of Vaduz is delighted to be taking another step towards becoming an environmentally friendly and future-oriented municipality by testing the Arboloom Cup. The wooden cups are made available to clubs free of charge for events at the Summerträff.
