Unveiling of a Portrait of Former Mayor Petra Miescher
The official portrait of former Mayor Petra Miescher was unveiled in the town hall. The work was created by artist Jess de Zilva and honors the tenure of Vaduz’s first female mayor.
Petra Miescher served as the first woman to hold the office of Mayor of Vaduz from May 2023 to May 2024. Due to health reasons, she suspended her official duties between late December 2023 and late March 2024 and ultimately resigned from office on May 24, 2024. With the portrait now unveiled, she continues the tradition in which former mayors are portrayed by an artist and their portraits are subsequently hung along the side aisles of the City Hall. With Petra Miescher, there are now 23 former mayors immortalized in the City Hall.
The portrait was created by Liechtenstein artist Jess de Zilva. De Zilva was born in London and grew up in Nendeln. The artist is a member of the Liechtenstein Artists’ Association Visarte and an alumna of ArtCan. She served as artistic director of Women in Art and was a finalist for the Target Prize 2025. Her works have been exhibited internationally and are included in public collections such as those of the Liechtenstein Cultural Foundation.
The selection of Jess de Zilva for this portrait underscores the commitment to engaging with the historical context of the Town Hall with contemporary, sensitive, and expressive art. Her particular depth, her distinctive style, and her sensitivity lend the portrait a special touch and blend harmoniously into the representative setting of the Town Hall.
